Azerbaijani movie awarded at cinema festival in India

“Bloody January" film by Azerbaijani filmmaker Vahid Mustafayev has received an award at the 46th International Film Festival of Goa, India.

The film tells the story of the events during the night of January 19 to 20, 1990, when the Soviet Army started hostilities against Azerbaijan, without declaring an emergency situation. As a result of the crime, 132 people were killed, 612 people injured and 841 people illegally arrested. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed; the state and citizens suffered huge material damage.

This terrible page of the struggle of the Azerbaijani people for independence, seen through the eyes of two brothers: communist and KGB officer Najaf Narimanov and former officer of the Soviet army in Afghanistan Mehdi Narimanov converted into revolutionary democrat.

The Festival is organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF), Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India in collaboration with the State Government of Goa and the Indian Film Industry.

The Festival aimed to provide a common platform for the cinematography of the world to project the excellence of the film art and promote friendship and co- operation among people of the world.

Translated into English, Russian and other languages, the film has been presented at many international festivals.

Recently, it was screened in the 39th Mostra International Film Festival held in Sao Paulo and was awarded in the 39th Montreal World Film Festival 2015.
