Azerbaijani piano player wins YPN 2012 competition

Young Azerbaijani pianist Narmin Najafli, 16, the winner of numerous national and regional competitions, student of Bulbul Special Music School became the winner of the 1st Prize of the 5th Young Pianist of the North International competition held in Newcastle, U.K.

Competed in the Category B, Najafli claimed the title of the Young Pianist of the North 2012 in 12-16 age categories. The 2nd place winner became Katie Morgan (12), UK, while the 3rd Kiku Kamalainen (15), Finland, Gwenno Morgan (13), UK and Ondrej Zavadil (15), Czech Republic.
The jury, organizers and supporters of YPN 2012 have accepted 37 entries from: Azerbaijan, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Indonesia, Italy, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, UK and the USA.

Narmin was the first place winner of different musical competitions in national competitions in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. She is finalist of the 12nd Ettlingen (Germany) International Competition for Young Pianists in 2010. The 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Narva (Estonia) in 2012: 1st and Special prizes. 

She has performed at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in 2006 and in major concert halls in Washington, Strasbourg, Brussels, Moscow and Florence. Performed concerto no. 23 by Mozart with the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra at the age of eight, followed by many other performances with symphony orchestras of music by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky in Azerbaijan and Poland.

In 2007 by a Presidential decree included into the “Golden Book of Young Talents of Azerbaijan” and awarded the Presidential scholarship. Studies with Adelya Rahimova at the Special Bulbul Music School in Baku.
