09 June 2009 [13:10] - TODAY.AZ
Russian mobile operator MTC is considering possible purchase of assets in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, said chief executive of the company Mikhail Shamolin, according to the Azerbaijan Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies.
"There are two countries, where we are absent, but I consider that we must be present there. These countries are Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan", said Shamolin in his interview with Reuters.

MTC has business in Ukraine, the second larger mobile market among the CIS states after Russia and also works in Armenia, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

According to the chief executive of the company, MTC considers it inexpedient to launch a new operator from zero on the Azerbaijani and Kazakh markets as the penetration of mobile communication and competition level on these markets is already quite high.

"We are considering possible absorption (of assets) on these markets. We are waiting for the due moment and now we are studying different opportunities", said head of MTC. He added that the company currently does not hold definite talks with any operator from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
