SOCAR vice president says construction of 1-2 more platforms at Shah Deniz well expedient

"I think the second and the third platform could be built there. Probably, there will be the second platform there. But on the other hand, BP and its partners work at the possible gas extraction through a lower number of platforms via the underground facilities", said Yusifzade.

He noted that Shah Deniz is a deepwater gas field and it would be undesirable to apply underground methods of gas extraction here.

"Additional platforms will naturally require more expenses which is justified in terms of security", considers Yusifzade.

As for the concept of the further operation of the Shah Deniz field, Yusifzade suggested that this might occur soon.
