Azerbaijan may become one of the financial centers of CIS

24 October 2008 [09:47] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan may become one of the financial centers of the CIS due to its rapid economic growth and stably developing banking sector, said chairman of the IBA-Moscow board Fuad Abdullayev at a press conference in Baku.
According to Pavel Nefedov, secretary general of the CIS financial-banking council, the international financial center in Moscow will open by 2020. The main aim of its creation is elimination of negative influence of world crisis. "It is quite impossible to create several similar centers in the CIS and Azerbaijan is a real candidate for this role", said he.

According to Anatoli Kazakov, head of the coordination council of CIS, it is necessary to create a new infrastructure for such centers and they must locate in skyscrapers and it is necessary to introduce privileges to ensure capital inflow and so on.

He noted that the fact that a conference "Financial market of the CIS states: development and integration", will be held in Baku and will be attended by heads of almost all the leading banks of the CIS states, proves the importance attached to Azerbaijan on the financial market of the CIS.

"We want to hold this conference every year. Let's meet every year in Baku to discuss the problems of the financial-banking market of the CIS, like it is done in Davos to settle the world economic problems", said Kazakov.

The conference is expected to adopt definite resolutions on problems, especially regarding creation of overall banking products.
