Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to initiate talks on single power grid

27 June 2008 [13:52] - TODAY.AZ
In the near future Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will start talks on creation of a single power grid to ensure power exchange.
According to sources in the government, Georgia has recently appealed to Azerbaijan with a proposal to lay high voltage energy distribution line to extend to over 200 km (about 100 km are to be restored in Azerbaijani territory).

Georgian side has voiced readiness to initiate works in its territory.

In turn, the Azerbaijani government considers that the decision on construction and restoration of high voltage energy distribution lines should be made only after completion of trilateral talks and analysis of economic effectiveness of the project.

It should be reminded that over 90 km energy distribution line of 300 KV was demounted in the 1990s near Azerbaijan-Georgia border. Through creation of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey power infrastructure, Azerbaijan-generated power will be supplied to Turkey and Europe. Azerbaijan's total generating capacities make 5,500 MW.
