New State Program for ICT development to be worked out in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies started the development of a draft new State program on the development of the information-communication technologies.

A source from the Ministry reported, a new State Program is being developed in line with a new strategy on ICT for the next 10 years and will cover a period from 2009 until 2012.

On the whole, there is a plan to develop 2 state programs for resolution of issues, reflected in the strategy. The first program for 2005-2008 (Electronic Azerbaijan) was of research nature.

The first state program envisions the effective use of country's potential, modernization of ICT sector from the organizational, legal and staff point of views, formation of ICT-industry, attraction of new investments, expansion of private sector, adherence to the principles of free market and sound competition, provision of Azerbaijan's transfer to the informational society.
