Turkish energy official: "We must postpone natural gas sales in Azerbaijan"

Emphasizing the fact that the portion of natural gas in electricity production has increased to % 44.8, Ulusaler said there should be new agreements to minimize this ratio.

EMO Chairman Ulusaler has evaluated the natural gas outage. "We must postpone natural gas sales in Azerbaijan. We are buying liquefied natural gas from Nigeria and Algeria but it is not enough. The only connection we have is Russia at the moment. In case we experience problems with Russia, we will have serious energy problem in industry. Under such circumstances Turkey's conditions would be desperate," said Ulusaler.

Drawing attentions to Turkey's lack of accommodation in storing natural gas, Ulusaler reminded that Silivri storage which was supposed to be opened back in 2004 is still not completed.

Ulusaler suggested Turkish government to sue Iran for cutting natural gas then added: "However, Turkey does not have the enough courage to sue Iran for damages due to political reasons. Iran has cut natural gas without a just cause. They are acting against the agreement." Sabah
