Goods transportation through TRASECA to rise by 20 mln tonnes

31 August 2006 [09:30] - TODAY.AZ
Goods transportation through TRASECA will rise by some 20 mln tonnes after implementation of Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway project.

At present 40 mln tonnes of goods are carried through TRASECA.

TRASECA National Secretary of Azerbaijan, Akif Mustafayev, told APA that the proposals put forward by Georgian party were discussed at the meeting of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian transportation ministers.

The issues on financing of the project will be discussed early next year.

"The project can be funded in various ways. US Congress sanction on Eximbank has no influence on the works. It is important that a number countries including China are interested in this project."

He also added that TRASECA member states want Russia to be a member. But Russia has not made any decision yet, APA reports.
