Azerbaijani fishing boat crew face criminal case in Dagestan

July 5, 2006 criminal case was initiated against the crew members of Azerbaijani fishing boat, which was detained in the Caspian Sea waters in Dagestan.

As APA reports, the official of the Prosecutor's Office refused to make public the region prosecutor's office, which is conducting investigation saying the investigation is underway.

Dagestani Interior Ministry, Prosecutor-General, Mahachkala Seaport, Regional Border Troops Service as well as Federal Security Service and other bodies refuse to give any information on the fishing boat and the fate of the crew members.

In the past two years, tens of fishing boats were detained in this territory. Dagestani ecological service officers even shot at Azerbaijani fishermen several months ago. This incident has not been investigated.

According to the information of the Dagestani Regional Border Service, the boat #96, which was detained in Dagestani waters on July 5, was registered in Baku port.

The Caspian Shipping Company told the APA that the Baku port is subordinate to the Cabinet of Ministers, and fishing boats are likely to belong to different companies and firms.
