Iran is ready to consider the issue of connecting to international points of traffic exchange through the territory of Azerbaijan, Iranian ICT minister, Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi told Trend.

He said that currently Iran is connected to access points through Turkey, and if Azerbaijani companies can offer more acceptable tariffs, the exchange of IP traffic can be carried out through the territory of Azerbaijan.

"We recently launched a 300 gbps transit trunk that connects the south of Iran to the northern part of the country and we are ready to cooperate with Azerbaijani companies on the issue. It all depends on whether tariffs offered by Azerbaijani companies are reduced," said the minister.

He also commented on the readiness of the EPEG (Europe-Persia Express Gateway) cable project.

"Technically EPEG is ready long ago. The British partner for the project could not solve organizational as well as marketing and economic issues. There are some more issues that have not yet been answered. We positively assess this project, but as I have already said, we are not dependent on it and there are other highways through which we get access to international traffic exchange points," Azari-Jahromi said.
