The flights on Baku-Astrakhan route can be restored in the coming year.

This remark was made by the Governor of the Russia’s Astrakhan region, Aleksandr Jilkin, as part of his meeting with Rauf Veliyev, the head of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company.

"Considering the relations between Astrakhan and Azerbaijan, the flight can be renewed next year. In addition, Astrakhan’s travel agencies are ready to develop a new route, directing tourists to rest on the Azerbaijani resorts,” he said.

During the meeting the two sides also discussed development plans for the ferry service through the Russian port of Olya on the Caspian Sea.

From September 2014, direct flights on the Baku-Astrakhan route were performed and roundtrip was made once a week. But, since November 2014, the flights on this route had been carried out two times a week by Embraer aircraft.

Earlier this October, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency allowed four airlines of Russia including Ural Airlines, Yamal Airlines, Taimyr Air Company, Komiaviatrans, to operate flights to Azerbaijan on 14 different routes.
