Next dispatch of Kazakh locomotives ready for shipment to Azerbaijan

Next dispatch of Kazakh locomotives of the fifth generation of TE33A of the Evolution series is ready for shipment to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy reported on September 8.

An agreement on the supply of 10 locomotives to Azerbaijan was signed between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Kazakh Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty JSC in August 2015. The first part of Kazakh locomotives was delivered to Baku in August as well.

Vice President of the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty JSC Kanat Nuraly said that in accordance with the agreement, the company will deliver two locomotives to Baku monthly.

"The agreement is intended for the period until the end of January 2016," he noted.

As part of the realization of Kazakhstan's new economic policy "Nurly Zhol", the country develops the export of products of the transport mechanical engineering. Currently, the engines of local Kazakh producers are successfully being exploited on the railroads of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, as well as Turkmenistan.

These diesel locomotives are manufactured in Kazakhstan jointly with the U.S.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan amounted to $250.9 million as of 2014. Around $221.06 million accounted for the import from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan and $29.8 million – the export to Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan invested $5.2 million in Azerbaijan in fixed assets in 2002-2013. On the other hand, over the last two years Azerbaijan invested $132.8 million of direct investment in Kazakh economy.
