Azerbaijan Railways has completed the overhaul of a 317 kilometre section of the railway on the Baku-Georgian border route, the company said on Dec.10.
Major repairs of 317 kilometers of Baku-Boyuk Kesik have been carried out as part of the State Program on development of the railway system in Azerbaijan in 2010-2014 by a 215 million euro loan allocated by the Czech Exim Bank. Works on overhaul of the railway started on June 10, 2011 from the 97 kilometers of the Aghstafa-Tatli railway stretch.
Specialized railway institutions of the Demiryolservis LLC and the Azerbaijan Railways Ltd and corresponding bodies of the infrastructure department were invited to reconstruction.
The Baku-Georgian border road is part of the project to open up a rail connection on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route.
