MNP service to be active in Azerbaijan from new year

The mobile number portability service (MNP) will be available in the Azerbaijani mobile operator networks in early January, Azerbaijani Communication and IT Minister Ali Abbasov told media on Tuesday.

"Mobile operators have announced their readiness to deploy the service," he said.

"I believe the use of this service will strengthen competition in the market," he said. "This will contribute to further reduction in tariffs for mobile communication services."

MNP service implementation will allow mobile communication subscribers to save their phone number if they change carriers. The number transfer envisages a subscriber's transition from one carrier to another with the provider's prefix of 050, 051, 055, 070 and 077.
