Azerbaijan seeks to be self-sufficient in grain production

The Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry forecasts grain production worth 2.7-2.8 million tons in the country in 2013, Azerbaijani Minister Ismet Abasov told media today.

He said that if necessary, grain will be imported.

According to the ministry, around 2.802 million tons of grain (annual growth of 14%), of which 1.847 million tons were wheat (an increase of 12.6%) were produced in the country during 2012.

"We must be fully self-sufficient with grain during 1-2 years", he said.
