'Some seek to prevent improvement of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations'

27 June 2012 [19:15] - TODAY.AZ
Some forces don’t want the improvement and the real regulation of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations. They try to escalate tensions between the states, the Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev told APA’s special correspondent in Istanbul.

Minister said that the cases led to escalation of tensions in Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations were observed for several times: “I can’t tell what reason it was this time. But all of us know that there are some forces who try to escalate tensions between the countries and they are taking this opportunity now. They see that our relations slightly approach the improvement, the real work is done and some documents are prepared… I consider that this is the reason why they try to damage our relations”.

N. Aliyev recalled the last visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhammedov to Azerbaijan, when the two presidents discussed the status of the Caspian Sea and signed an agreement on exploration research work in oil and gas fields. Taking this fact into consideration, the minister called the Turkmenistan’s actions to be vague: “The presidents of the two countries spoke about this issue at the summit in that time and a special research group dealing with theses issues was established at the ministerial level. This group deals with border questions and when this problem is solved, any research work won’t be done in the “Kepez” field. Azerbaijani side has respect for its promise and didn’t explore this field”.
