Russia ups Azeri gas import

23 January 2012 [15:12] - TODAY.AZ
The Russia company Gazprom and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed the additional agreement to increase the purchase of Azerbaijani gas by 2 times - to 3 billion cubic meters in 2012.

The document was signed in the presence of the Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Dmitry Medvedev and as a result of the high-level talks in Sochi.

According to the information, the document was signed by the heads of the companies Rovnag Abdullaev and Alexey Miller.

"We double the purchase of Azerbaijani gas for the second year running," Miller said. "The Azerbaijani-Russian energy partnership is developing at a good pace. This reflects the mutual desire to further increase the volumes of hydrocarbon supplies. The lack of the 'ceiling' of the volume of gas purchases, geographical proximity, the presence of well-established gas pipeline infrastructure, excluding transit zones allow Azerbaijan to export natural gas to Russia more economically."
