Two Azerbaijani boxers, Albert Selimov, competing in men’s light (60 kg) event in boxing, and Anna Alimardanova (women’s 51-54 kg) advanced to semifinals at the First European Games in Baku June 23.
In the 1/4 finals, Salimov defeated Bulgaria’s Elian Dimitrov, 3:0.
This is while Azerbaijan’s female boxer Anna Alimardanova gained a victory over Stanimira Petrova (Bulgaria), 3:0.
Four more Azerbaijani athletes will compete for advancing to the semifinals in boxing on June 23.
The European Games that kicked off June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
