The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to spend at least $900 million on construction and renovation projects at the White House complex, AzerNEWS reports.

According to reports, instead of requesting the full amount directly from Congress, the administration has obtained funding from other government agencies and private donors. The money was then directed to an account that normally contains only a few million dollars and is used for the regular maintenance and upkeep of the White House.

Confidential contracts and planning documents reportedly indicate that the administration intends to use the funds for a series of “modernization projects” at the White House. The scale of the proposed spending is significantly larger than the amount typically allocated for routine repairs.

The plans have attracted attention because the White House is not only the official residence and workplace of the U.S. president but also one of the country’s most recognizable historic buildings. Any major changes to the complex can therefore become politically and architecturally controversial.

The project also raises questions about transparency and oversight. Critics may argue that such a large amount of public and private funding should be subject to clear congressional scrutiny, while supporters could view the renovations as necessary to modernize aging infrastructure and improve the White House facilities.

If the plans move forward, the project could become one of the most expensive modernization efforts in the White House’s history.
