The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei officially appointed Iran's Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a member of the Expediency ?Discernment Council, Khamenei's official website reported.

In a formal letter, Ayatollah Khamenei said that, "considering the valuable experiences that you have gained during your eight year term as the country's president, I appoint you as a member of the Expediency ?Discernment Council.

Ahmadinejad's term as president finished on Saturday.

Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani is the current chairman of the Expediency ?Discernment Council.
