The Georgian Supreme Court has accepted the Georgian Dream Party's coalition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili's lawsuit on the presidential decree annulment. According to this presidential decree, he had been deprived of Georgian citizenship.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in October 2011 signed a decree depriving Ivanishvili and his wife Georgian citizenship. The decree was challenged in the court and Georgian citizenship was returned to the businessman's wife. In June, the Court of Appeal refused to restore Ivanishvili's Georgian citizenship. The politician had the right to appeal against the decision in the Georgian Supreme Court.

Ivanishvili's lawyer Shalva Tadumadze considers Ivanishvili's lawsuit received by the Supreme Court as a 'positive sign'. "The lawsuit was received as opposed to the previous periods," the lawyer said.

Previously Ivanishvili lost his Russian citizenship and appealed to the Georgian official bodies to give him Georgian citizenship. However, he is still a French citizen. He will lose it after obtaining Georgian citizenship.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 1. Around 14 parties and two political blocs participated in the elections.

According to full the preliminary data of the Georgian Central Election Commission, the Georgian Dream coalition will receive 83 seats in the parliament, and the United National Movement, 67.
