Baby with unknown gender born in Gusar region

ANS TV reported that a baby with unknown gender was born in Amsar Gishlag village of Gusar region. The weight of the baby born in Gurbanov’s family on April 12 is 3.600 grams, height - 50 cm.

According to the child's mother Bahar Gurbanova, the ultrasound examination during pregnancy showed that it was a boy. During the birth the doctors in appearance determined that the baby is female. However, it wasn’t possible to exactly determine which gender the baby belonged to.

After the birth, doctors recommended to take him to Baku. The city doctors, in turn, were helpless against such an anomaly.

Physician-geneticist of the Central Clinical Hospital said that the phenomenon occurs in one out of 2000 newborns. "In such cases, a surgery is applied to remove the defect. But in this case it seems a little complicated, because the child's gender is not determined," he added.

According to the physician-geneticist, after conducting the necessary surveys, it will be possible to determine the gender of the child. For this, chromosomal analysis should be applied.

Doctors consider that the defect was caused by receiving to many hormones during pregnancy or by hereditary factors. Surgeon at the Research Institute of Pediatrics Gunduz Agayev considers it is possible to eliminate the defect with surgery. However, the child's parents refused to go on.
