Azeri peacemakers' commander in Iraq recalled ahead of schedule

18 September 2006 [19:04] - TODAY.AZ
Commander of Azeri peacemakers contingent in Iraq has been recalled ahead of schedule and substituted with another one.

A military source told the APA the cause of his recalling is due to financial irregularities in the peacekeeping contingent deployed to Iraq.

Defense Ministry press service chief, Colonel Ramiz Malikov told the APA inspections are being carried out with regard to the financial irregularities in Azerbaijani peacekeeping contingent in Iraq. Refusing to inform in detail, Malikov said inspections are being conducted at the Military Prosecutor's Office simultaneously.

Peacekeeping soldiers receive $700 per month.

APA could not get any comment from the Military Prosecutor's Office regarding the issue.
