African states should unite against colonial powers: Ahmadinejad

27 May 2011 [10:00] - TODAY.AZ
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday called on the African governments and nations to do their best for achieving full unity and consensus while criticizing the colonial powers for their efforts to once again take full control of North Africa, IRNA reported.

President Ahmadinejad made the remark in a meeting with the African ambassadors and diplomatic missions to Iran on the occasion of the International Africa Day in Tehran.

'If the African governments act in coordination with each other, the hands of the plunderers will be cut from the rich resources of Africa while the economic and cultural potentials of the oppressed African nations will bear result,' the president added.

President Ahmadinejad said that the International Africa Day is the day for commemorating the great resistance of the African nations and leaders.

'I hope that consensus among the African nations will achieve the desired result and the aspirations of the African people will also take effect very soon,' he added.

Expressing his satisfaction with the formation of the African Union, President Ahmadinejad noted that the major portion of the world's wealth is situated in Africa as is the major portion of human civilization and culture.

'If the European Union considers itself an economic power, it is not due to their efforts or inherent potentials and initiatives, but it is because of pillaging the wealth of the African, Asian and South American countries,' he added.

The president said that cooperation between Iran and African countries is expanding.

'Although the world's independent countries comprise the majority of the United Nations member-states, the UN decisions have always been against the interests of the African and Asian countries. UN has failed to defend the interests of independent states,' President Ahmadinejad added.
