Turkish Red Crescent started an aid campaign for the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12.

Turkish Red Crescent released a written statement and said according to the reports of the United Nations, this was the "most destructive quake of the history".

The statement said Red Crescent teams left for the region immediately after the quake.

"Daily foodstuff need of a four-people family costs 4 USD. Turkish Red Crescents wants Turkish people to help Haitian people by sending a mobile phone message and contribute 5 Turkish lira," the statement said.

The statement said people also assist through internet or by making donations to banks.

The quake killed tens of thousands of people and left thousands of others homeless and destitute. It was the most devastating quake recorded in the last two centuries.
