Euronews TV to start broadcasting in Turkish

Turkish state-run TRT is the fourth biggest partner of the Euronews under an agreement signed in 2008.
The Euronews TV channel will start broadcasting in Turkish.

Lyon-based news channel is getting ready to launch a Turkish-language news channel, which is scheduled to go on air at the end of January.

Turkish state-run TRT is the fourth biggest partner of the Euronews under an agreement signed in 2008.

Euronews has 21 share-holders including leading national TV channels from European countries. TRT has a 16 percent stake while France has 25 percent, Italy 21 percent, Russia 19 percent and Switzerland 9 percent shares in the news channel.

Euronews already broadcasts in Arabic and Russian. As part of its plans to reach out toward the East, the channel will start broadcasting in Persian by the end of 2010.

Founded in 1992 in Lyon as a European Broadcasting Union initiative, Euronews beams out into hundreds of millions of households worldwide by cable, satellite and terrestrial 24 hours a day with more than 400 staff from different nationalities.

In terms of audience, Euronews is the most watched news channel in Europe.
