A Turkish aid organisation will be looking after 700 orphans in destroyed Haiti by a strong earthquake that is estimated killed thousands of hundreds of Haitians.

The Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHH) announced that it will be looking after 700 Haitian orphans who lost their parents during the earthquake.

"We provide hot meals on a regular basis to 700 orphan children. We take them under our protection. This number will increase. There are a large number of orphans. We will bring expert psychologists for the rehabilitation of children from the US, open an office in capital Port-au-Prince. We will continue our support after the earthquake," IHH Haiti represantative Halil Demir said.

U.N. blue-helmeted troops have been struggling to help keep order and deliver aid after the Jan. 12 quake wrecked the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince and killed as many as 200,000 people.

More than 30 countries have rushed relief to Haiti since Tuesday's devastating earthquake.

IHH President Bulent Yildirim also said in a written statement that the organization started the procedures for bringing some of the Haitian orphan children to Turkey.

He further noted that families who would like to take care of one orphan can do it by donating TL 70 per month.

Provides information about relief efforts, Yildirim noted relief supplies that were obtained from the neighboring country Dominican Republic are distributed to victims in Haiti. "When the problems in Haiti airlines resolves, we will send our aid cargo by plane from America. Currently, relief supplies from the neighboring country Dominican Republic are sent to Haiti by trucks, "he said.
