The US does not expect any a "breakthrough" Thursday when Western powers meet with Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss its nuclear programme, the White House said, dpa reported.
"We're not expecting any breakthrough in this initial meeting," spokesman Jay Carney said, but stressed the meeting was "part of us testing the seriousness of the Iranians."
Tehran would have to show it was serious about a verifiable process of giving up its nuclear weapons programme and ambitions, Carney said.
