PACE seeing no need to appoint new rapporteur on hostages and missing persons in South Caucasus

11 January 2008 [10:11] - TODAY.AZ
The Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) says there is no need to appoint a new rapporteur on hostages and missing persons in South Caucasus at present, according to the PACE Committee on legislation issues.

Sources from the Committee announced that the report of the former rapporteur and Dutch parliamentarian Leo Platvoet’s was adopted after discussions and there is no need for appointment of a new rapporteur at present.

“The report was submitted to the Committee of the Ministers of the organization after adoption in the PACE Committee on Migration. The Committee on Migration appealed to the Committee of the Ministers with a request to approve the report and take further steps regarding this issue,” he said.

Though several months have passed since the appeal, there has been no information on the fate of the report yet.

PACE reported that the delay in the response is connected with the accumulation of too many issues to be discussed.

“Everything depends on the reaction of the Committee of Ministers. The appointment of a new rapporteur upon the demand of this organization, or preparation of a new report can be brought to the agenda,” he said.
