Dinosaur park to give away model brontosaurus

The colossal long-necked reptile is an unwanted attraction at Europe's biggest dinosaur park, which is running out of space. The two-and-half-tonne house-sized behemoth is 30ft long and stands 20ft tall and is worth £20,000.
 
Bosses at the hugely popular Dan-yr-Ogof National Showcave Centre for Wales, near Swansea, plan to bring in a new model spinosaurus. The dinosaur, whose remains were recently discovered in Africa, looks like a T-Rex with a terrifying sail on its back.

Ashford Price, the boss of Showcave, believes it will be a hit with children and help boost visitor numbers past its current 100,000 a year. But with 220 monster attractions, from giant flying predators to flesh-eating lizards, something has to go first.

''I think that it would be a father's ultimate surprise gift for a dinosaur-mad son,'' he said today. ''I could easily imagine it ending up in someone's back garden - if they have the space.

''But it could also go to a school somewhere in England or Wales or perhaps become a giant mascot for a rugby or cricket team.

''If anyone can offer Bronto a new home they should get in touch. The only problem is that it is a bit too big to post, so they will have to sort out how they get it home themselves.''

He added that the complex had already received a number of inquiries from groups interested in taking on the brontosaurus. It is expected that interest will be high and so the offer will be kept open for a fortnight before deciding where Bronto will go.

''We will be sad to see our brontosaurus go as it was one of our original models in our collection,'' Mr Price added.

''But we already have a large collection of long-necked, plant-eating dinosaurs and need to part with one of them urgently so make room for the proposed new model.''
