Film 'Nargin' screened at Nizami Cinema Center

A feature-length documentary "Nargin" has been screened at Nizami Cinema Center on March 31, AzerNEWS reports.

Directed by Elmaddin Aliyev and Khayyam Abdullazade, the film was produced by Karvan Production with the support of the Azerbaijan Cinema Agency.

The evening began with a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the March 31 genocide and in honor of the outstanding actor, People's Artist Rasim Balayev, who became a symbol of the national spirit on the silver screen.

The program continued with a speech by playwright Ilgar Fahmi, who emphasized the film's profound historical and spiritual significance as a vital document of its era.

Based on authentic events, the film recounts the tragic fate of Turkish soldiers held captive on Nargin Island during World War I.

It vividly portrays the drama of those years, highlighting the resilience and courage of individuals who preserved their human dignity under inhumane conditions.

A particularly moving aspect of the story is the heroic compassion of Sona Khanum Hajiyeva, a member of the Baku Muslim Charitable Society. Risking her own life, she delivered food and clothing to the island, becoming a beacon of hope and selflessness for the exhausted prisoners.

A discussion with the filmmakers allowed attendees to gain deeper insight into the creative vision behind the project.

Sharing their experiences during filming, the team stressed the importance of preserving national consciousness through cinema, noting that remembrance of tragic chapters of history forms the very foundation on which the future is built.
