Azerbaijani Mugam Month in due California

 At the initiative of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles November of 2012 has been declared “The Month of Azerbaijani Mugam in California”.  According to the Consulate General, this month major cities of California will host a series of concerts by well-known masters of Azerbaijani Mugam performing in various Azerbaijani national instruments.

"The Month of Azerbaijani Mugam in California" will start on November 1 by the concert at UCLA's Schoenberg Hall in Los Angeles. The concert entitled "35 years of space travel of Azerbaijani Mugam", dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Voyager Golden Records. As it is known, the Voyager Golden Records are phonograph records which were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft, which were launched in 1977. They contain sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth, and are intended for any intelligent extraterrestrial life form, or for future humans, who may find them. Azerbaijani mugam was also included into the record.

A similar concert will be held on November 2 in San Diego. On November 10, opera "Leyli ve Majnun" by outstanding Azerbaijani composer Uzeir Hajibeyli will be performed for the first time in San Francisco as part of the World Music Festival.

The Azeri mugam performers will also participate in the Festival due on November 8 -11.
"The Month of Mugam in California" will wrap up on November 13 by the concert at Foreign Relations Council in Los Angeles.
