Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have signed a protocol on implementation of the Baku Bay Sea Bridge Project, said the Secretariat of the Ministry.

The document was signed by KOICA Implementation Survey Team Leader Cho Sang-Woo and Azerbaijani Ministry’s transportation policy and economy officer Sadraddin Mammadov.
The project aims to perform a feasibility study for the construction of a sea bridge over Baku Bay, improve transport infrastructure in Baku, and study and introduce the Korean experience to enhance skills of Azerbaijani specialists.
The Korean government has approved $1.6 million for project preparation work in 2009-2011.
The total length of the bridge will be 26 kilometres with the access roads included.
The sea bridge will be built on high props, not to hinder the movement of ships beneath.
Ropes will be used in order to ensure stability and elasticity of the bridge.
The Korean side plans to provide about $1 billion for the construction.
The bridge is planned to be commissioned by 2015.
