Realization of the decisions taken at the 4 December TRACECA anniversary conference held in Baku on renewal of Organisation’s institutes is underway.

Akif Mustafayev, TRACECA national coordinator on behalf of Azerbaijan, says that at TRACECA legal affairs workgroup’s session in Istanbul (Turkey) it was made a range of recommendations on consideration of draft documents at 7th session of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission in Kyrgyzstan.
“In particular it was recommended to consider draft documents on multimodal transport and cargo forwarding accompanying. The purpose is creation of legal base for realization of TRACECA relevant projects,” Mustafayev said.
In parallel there is a workgroup in the Organisation on reforms in TRACECA institutes.
The reforms will also be conducted within the framework of implementation of a decision on TRACECA integration into Trans-European Transport Network with creation of South-Eastern axis. The decision is in the context of the Action Plan of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission for period until 2015 and conforms to conclusions of European Union’s high-level group made in the end of 2007. A wide programme of actions that is behind all that will allow TRACECA upgrading for needs of new conditions that are under formation in the world.
As a whole, international financial institutions’ investments in projects within the transport corridor exceeded EUR 1 bn. Within the TRACECA programme for the past 15 years the European Commission has financed 15 investment and 61 technical projects with overall cost EUR 157 million. Following the done works on corridor development its cargo transportation increased from 3 million tons in 1993-97 up to 9 million tons in 1998 and 53 million tons in 2007. As a whole, since 1998 it has been carried 150 million tons of cargo via this route.
