As many as 4,000 containers with sediment goods have been left at Iranian customs during the past 10 years, Head of Iranian Customs Organization Mehdi Mirashrafi said.

"The volume of sediment goods are 3,000-4,000 containers, but I believe the current efforts of free zones, Ports and Maritime Organization, and Organization for Collection and Sale of State-owned Properties will allow to reduce this volume,” he said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Mirashrafi noted that over the past 10 years, $35 billion worth of imported goods entered the country. Basic goods accounted for $10 billion of these imports, while other goods, including machineries and raw materials accounted for $25 billion, he added.

He noted that there are goods that have been left at the ports five years ago.

Referring to the US sanctions against Iran, Mirahsrafi noted that sanctions can create some problems for the country, but cooperation between organizations can mitigate that impact and cut the volume of sediment goods.
