MFA blamed Armenian president for sabotage

28 June 2013 [08:15] - TODAY.AZ
The Armenian president once again deceived the world community while speaking about problems in the region, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said today.

"I wonder who created these problems? Abdullayev told Trend today. "Only Yerevan can be blamed for these existing problems. Along with the occupation of a neighboring country's territory, the head of the aggressor country perpetrated bloody purges, by cruelly killing the local population. How can the head of the aggressor country talk about the values?"

He said that the preservation of regional tension, confrontation and the existing instability can be called destructive and subversive activity.

During his official visit to Poland Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a joint press conference following the meeting with Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski that there are still problems and the circumstances in the region which prevent the full implementation of the opportunities delivered by "Eastern Partnership".

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
