Azerbaijani fighters win clutch of 25 medals

Azerbaijan’s junior taekwondo fighters have successfully performed at the Fifth European Taekwondo Clubs Championships running in Antalya.

Fighters Fizam Mehdiyev (58kg) and Aykhan Taghizade (68kg) have claimed the gold medals on the third day of the Championships, Azertac reported.

Other Azerbaijani fighter Mikayil Aliyev claimed the silver in the 54kg weight category.

The national taekwondo fighters won 13 medals on the second day of the European Clubs Championships in Antalya.

The gold medals came from Farid Sultan, Orkhan Taghizade and Mehriban Mammadova. Khanoghlan Karimov, Gasim Aslanov, Javid Aghayev, Hasan Ibrahimov and Mirvari Ganbarli claimed the silvers, while Muhammad Alizade, Ayaz Ganbarli, Sevda Perseyidova, Nargiz Mirzayeva and Narmin Suleymanova scooped the bronze medals of the tournament.

The junior fighters claimed nine medals on the first day of the tournament.

Azerbaijani fighters now have 25 medals at the tournament.

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.
