Historical victory of national acrobats in China

The 9th Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions took place in Putian City, China with Azerbaijani acrobats achieving a big success taking two silver medals.

The country was represented in age groups 12-18 and 13-19 in the sporting event held on March 23-29.

Starting with the 12-18’s, Azerbaijani mixed pair Aghasif Rahimov and Nurjan Jabbarli won the silver in the final of combined exercises scoring 27.650 points.

This was the best result that the national acrobats have reached so far in the World Age Group Competitions.

Russian duet with 28.050 points took the gold, while acrobats from Great Britain and Kazakhstan shared the third place with 27.350 points.

In the 13-19yrs finals, the national mixed pair of Seymur Jafarov and Murad Akparov won the silver with 27.500 points for their combined exercise.

The first and third places were taken by gymnasts from Russia with 28.050 and Great Britain with 27.000 points, respectively.

Azerbaijan’s another mixed pair of Abdulla Al-Mashaykhi and Ruhidil Gurbanli also showed good results. Receiving 53.100 points in total of two exercises at the qualifications, the pair gave its place to the duet from Spain, as only one pair per each country could participate in the finals according to the rules.

This is the big success for the national team, with the majority of these Azerbaijani athletes having never competed at a competition of this size before.
