Azerbaijani swimmer Maksim Shemberev has qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games after wining gold and silver medals at the “Swim Meeting” international tournament in Berlin held on March 6-8.
Shemberev won gold in the 1500m event and silver in the 400m event.
Both results hit the FINA “B” standards.
"It`s the first license prevailing 'B qualifying standard since Azerbaijan gained independence,” Azerbaijan Swimming Federation reports.
Another Azerbaijani swimmer- Anton Zheltyakov has gained bronze medal for 200 meters breaststroke swimming (2 minutes 18.86 seconds) and fell behind for 2 seconds to win license prevailing 'B' qualifying standard.
Meanwhile Zheltyakov along with another Azerbaijani swimmer Boris Kirillov will take part at Open Championships of Belarus.
