Impel Wroclaw stun Telekom Baku in CL season opener

30 October 2015 [19:16] - TODAY.AZ

Poland’s Impel Wroclaw started their journey in the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women by delivering a classy performance to claim a 3:0 victory (25-17, 25-12, 26-24) in their match with Azerbaijan’s Telekom Baku on Thursday afternoon.

As this season they can count on a number of experienced star players such as Carolina Costagrande, Milena Radecka and Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata, Impel Wroclaw did not have to work too hard to stun the young and fairly inexperienced players from Azerbaijan. Impel imposed their rule right from the start of the match and comfortably claimed the opening set by 25-17.

Skowronska-Dolata and Kristine Hildebrand set the pace for Impel in the second set and this period quickly came to an end with a landslide 25-12 win for the visitors from Poland.

Telekom Baku stepped up their efforts in the third set and edged ahead at both the first and second technical time-outs (8:7, 16:14). However, Impel Wroclaw played just superbly towards the end and with their 26-24 set win they pocketed their first win in Europe’s finest league.
