Azerbaijani wrestlers scoop twenty medals in Bulgaria

Azerbaijani wrestlers won twenty medals at the 17th International Wrestling Tournament held in the memory of Petko Sirakov and Ivan Iliev among juniors.

The tournament was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, on March 21-23.

In addition to individuals, Azerbaijan's national teams in freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women's wrestling also participated in the tournament.

Azerbaijani wrestlers completed the three-day competition with six gold, four silver, and ten bronze medals. Of these, three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal fell to the wrestlers in the Greco-Roman style, while freestyle wrestlers won one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals.

On the first day of the tournament, wrestlers won two gold and three silver medals.

In the women's event, Solmaz Hashimzade (55 kilograms) showed the best result, winning the gold medal, while Turkan Nasirova (44 kilograms) gained silver.

Greco-Roman wrestler Hajimurad Chopsiev (120 kilograms) defeated all opponents and won the gold medal, while Orkhan Mammadov (66 kilograms) took the second place.

Freestyle wrestler Said Hamidov (96 kilograms) won the silver medal on the first day of the tournament.

On the second day of the event, Ragnetta Gurbanzade (67 kilograms) and Shafag Muradzade (48 kilograms) received gold medals in the women's event, while Kerim Jafarov (60 kilograms) and Hajimurad Baghmanov (74 kilograms) won bronze medals in the Greco-Roman wrestling.

In freestyle wrestling, Nurmahammad Hajiyev (84 kilograms) won gold medal, while Mirjalal Hasanzade (55 kilograms) and Abdulmuslim Mukhuddinov (66 kilograms) won bronze medals.

During the third day of the event, Azerbaijan's Elmira Gambarova (63 kilograms) won the bronze medal while competing in women's wrestling.

Competing in the Greco-Roman wrestling, Murad Mammadov (55 kilograms) won the gold medal, defeating all his rivals. Orkhan Nuriyev (96 kilograms), in turn, won silver, while Islam Abbasov (84 kilograms) and Turman Eyyubov won bronze medals.

In freestyle wrestling, Azerbaijan's Arif Huseynov (50 kilograms), Jahid Hasanzade and Vurgun Aliyev (both 60 kilograms) won bronze medals.

The tournament in GR, FS, and FW wrestling was organized by the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation.
