11 February 2011 [15:17] - TODAY.AZ
The cars, already operating in the territory of Azerbaijan and not complying with Euro-2 environmental standards, will be taken out of service, the head of the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents Ramiz Hasanov said at a press conference at the headquarters of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

He said that if the owners of old cars are able to bring them into conformity with the requirements of the Euro-2 standards, then they will continue to operate.

Hasanov added, that there is only one laboratory in the territory of Azerbaijan determining the conformity of cars with these standards. The laboratory received accreditation. This is a laboratory of the State Customs Committee. It has been checking the cars imported in Azerbaijan from Feb. 1.

The State Committee intends to open nine new laboratories, including the regions, to test vehicles.
