Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture employees arrested for serious violations

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan held a Board meeting on the activities of the Ministry in 2010, challenges it is due to face in 2011, the work carried out in 2010 in order  to increase transparency and implement the measures contained in the Plan of the National Strategy for Combating Corruption for 2007 - 2011 and the tasks in connection with requests made at the enlarged meeting of the Commission on Combating Corruption, held on January 27, 2011.

At the meeting, the Minister Ismet Abbasov, noting that a positive result was produced by a number of government programs and orders, signed by the President Ilham Aliyev. It became possible to provide the population with various kinds of agricultural products from domestic production.

Strengthening measures to combat corruption in order to fulfil orders of the President of Azerbaijan "On Approval of the National Strategy for increasing transparency and fighting corruption" of 28 July 2007 were specially emphasized at the meeting . The ministry revealed a number of shortcomings as a result of the investigation of economic activities in public institutions for agricultural production.

The JSC "Aqrolizinq" was investigated and according to the court decisions heads of agricultural services in the region of Gusar and a mechanized unit Hanarab in region of Barda were arrested in connection with serious shortcomings.

Criminal proceedings were instituted against the head of agricultural services in the district of Agjabedi.
