The top of the flamenco world gathered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from 21 to 30 January 2011 for the Flamenco Biennale, 3rd International Flamenco Music Festival.
The Flamenco Biennial Netherlands shows the rich flamenco tradition with modern dance performances, intimate song recitals and exciting musical alliances. Flamenco, “the art, the cry of the people and the Andalusian gypsies,” as the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca and composer Manuel de Falla stated early last century, has now become world heritage. The Flamenco Biennial invites dancers, choreographers, singers and guitarists who keep the ancient dance and musical form alive with their vision.

The outstanding Azeri composer Frangiz Alizadeh`s new piece titled “Mugflamenco”, which combines both traditional Azeri mugam and flamenco, was presented January 30 at Muzikcentrum concert hall.

The composition was performed by Azerbaijani mugam singer Zabit Nabizade, tarist Alasgar Mammadov and the Nieuw Ensemble (Holland). Just as flamenco, mugam has its roots in intense expressive improvised singing of a highly personal nature.

The ten-day festival featured lots of performances, master classes and workshops, lectures, films and documentaries.
