Bird flu in Azerbaijan?

H5N1 virus (bird flu) was revealed in Samukh region of Azerbaijan, Deputy MInister of Health Elsever Agayev said. According to him, The Ministr of Health received information on bird flu from State Veterinary Service: “Thus, some of domestic birds suffered great losses and the blood samples were sent to the ministry”.

According to Deputy Minister, H5 of H5N1 was confirmed and a study is conducted to reveal N1.

However, according to First Deputy Chief of the Samukh Region Executive Power Tahir Garayev, "no poultry were found to be infected with the H5N1 virus ("bird flu") in the Samukh region in western Azerbaijan."

"Poultry deaths were observed over a certain period, but this is a natural process that takes place periodically," Garayev said.

According to the official, no poultry deaths were related to the "bird flu" virus.

According to the Agriculture Ministry's State Veterinary Service spokesman Yolchu Valiyev, a laboratory analysis is underway to determine tadiohe reasons for the mass poultry deaths in Samukh.
