Construction of a residential building for the journalists in Azerbaijan may start by late 2010, Vugar Safarli, executive director of the Azerbaijani State Support for Media Development Fund under the Azerbaijani President said.

"We are trying to lay the foundation of a 16-storey building by late 2010," Safarli said.

Azerbaijani President Aliyev signed a decree July 22 to strengthen social protection of employees of the Azerbaijani press. The decree said that 5 million manat would be allocated from the presidential reserve fund to improve the living conditions of employees of the Azerbaijani press and build houses.

Safarli said works are underway on the projects received in connection with the construction of the building.

The criteria for allocating apartments to journalists have not yet determined, Safarli said.

"When construction begins, we will make the announcement on the required documents, to be received by the Fund" Safarli said.

According to him, three buildings can be constructed on the selected area, and this project will be continued in the future.
