Floods that have inundated the villages of Sabirabad, Saatly, Hajigabul regions of Azerbaijan now threaten country’s Shamakhi region.

Heavy rains caused a rise in water level in the Pirsaat River in Shamakhi at about 21.00 (local time) on May 20. The mudflow swept through a Sabir village, damaging part of the gas pipeline. Mudslides also swept away one tractor, a KrAZ truck and an excavator.
The Interior Ministry said the flooding has washed away roads leading to Galeybugurd, Galadarasi, Sis and Kechmaddin villages. Power lines with a capacity of 10,000 kilovolts have been broken down. Damirchi, Talyshnuri and Gonagkand villages also faced flood threat. The mudslides have caused damage to gardens and killed a large number of cattle.
