
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, continuing humane principles founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev, has signed an executive order pardoning a group of prisoners.
The act applied to 72 convicts, 62 of whom have been released from the unserved prison term, and life sentence of a prisoner was replaced with 20-year jail sentence.
The act has been signed based on pardon appeals by a number of convicted persons,
their families, taking into account their personality, health, marital
status, behavior of prisoners during imprisonment period, based on the
principles of humanity, guided by paragraph 22 of article 109 of the
Constitution of Azerbaijan.
Among them there is editor-in-chief of the Azadlyg
newspaper Ganimat Zahid.
