Georgia's culture ministry declines to list a mosque in Azerbaijani-populated village as cultural and historical monument

02 November 2009 [12:37] - TODAY.AZ
Georgian Ministry of Culture refused to include a mosque in Fakhrali village populated by Azerbaijanis in the list of cultural and historical monuments, resident of Fakhrali village Adil Nabiyev said.

He said representative of the Caucasian Muslims Board in Georgia Ali Aliyev addressed the issue in his meeting with the Georgian Patriarch Ilya II.

“The patriarch promised to solve the issue. But time goes by and rains damage the building materials we bought for the mosque. The priests, who are keeping watch over the mosque hint that “we are tearing away your religion and no one helps you”.

"We have hanged a black piece of fabric on the door and minaret of the mosque. When they allow us to begin reconstruction work, we will remove them”.
